A simple yet versatile garment, the saree or sari is a distinct and stylish fashion identity of India, taking the pride of place in every Indian woman’s wardrobe. From the classic to the modern, the saree is the favorite apparel in IndiaA saree (or sari) is a traditional Indian garment, worn in different styles across the country. Sarees from India have always epitomized the country’s culture and date back to the Indus Valley Civilization. The saree is draped by women from all strata of the society and ranges from daily wear to a fashion statement. Sarees from India are available in many different designs and almost every state in the country has a typical and unique style - from the Kanjivaram in Tamil Nadu to the Banarasi in Uttar Pradesh, from the Paithani in Maharashtra to the Ikkat in Orissa. Sarees have traditionally been made from silk or cotton. Sarees from India may be hand-woven or block-printed, and be embellished with gold or silver thread (also known as zari) or with precious stones or crystals. Stepping into a saree shop is like entering a wonderland of colors, designs and fabrics.
Designer Sari - Modern Twist to Tradition
In the recent past, the traditional sari had made way for the comfortable salwar-kameez combination and western clothes, especially among young Indian women. However, it has had a revival lately, with the advent of the designer sari. Usually made from lighter (and manageable) fabrics such as crepe, chiffon and georgette, the designer sari is a bolder statement with strong colors and abstract prints. The traditional sari has been updated by well-known Indian designers such as Tarun Tahiliani and Satya Paul as well by international fashion houses such as Hermes and Louis Vuitton, leaving the fashionista spoiled for choice.
Bridal Sari - Timeless Classic
The most important part of an Indian bride’s trousseau is the bridal sari. Indian weddings usually are elaborate multi-day affairs, with many different rituals and functions and each one demands a new sari. A bridal sari is a traditional one, usually made of silk, with heavy embroidery or embellishments and in a vibrant color, red being the most popular. Each region has its own unique type of sari and the bride generally wears her native, traditional design and style.

A variety of wild silks, produced by caterpillars other than the mulberry silkworm, have been known and used in China, South Asia, and Europe since ancient times. However, the scale of production was always far smaller than that of cultivated silks. There are several reasons for this: firstly, they differ from the domesticated varieties in colour and texture and are therefore less uniform; secondly, cocoons gathered in the wild have usually had the pupa emerge from them before being discovered so the silk thread that makes up the cocoon has been torn into shorter lengths; and thirdly, many wild cocoons are covered in a mineral layer that stymies attempts to reel from them long strands of silk Thus previously the only way to obtain silk suitable for spinning into textiles in areas where commercial silks are not cultivated is by tedious and labor intensive carding.Commercial silks originate from reared silkworm pupae which are bred to produce a white colored silk thread with no mineral on the surface. The pupae are killed by either dipping them in boiling water before the adult moths emerge or by piercing them with a needle. These factors all contribute to the ability of the whole cocoon to be unravelled as one continuous thread, permitting a much stronger cloth to be woven from the silk. Wild silks also tend to be more difficult to dye than silk from the cultivated silkworm.A technique known as demineralizing allows the mineral layer around the cocoon to be removed, leaving only variability in color as a barrier from creating a commercial silk industry based on wild silks in parts of the world where wild silkmoths thrive, such as Africa and South America.Silk, known as "Paat" in Eastern India, Pattu in southern parts of India and Resham in Hindi/Urdu, has a long history in India. Recent archaeological discoveries in Harappa and Chanhu-daro suggest that sericulture, employing wild silk threads from native silkworm species, existed in South Asia during the time of the Indus Valley Civilization, roughly contemporaneous with the earliest known silk use in China. According to an article in Nature by Philip Ball, while there are various evidences for silk production in China back to around 2570 BC, newly discovered silk objects from the Indus valley in eastern Pakistan are believed to date from between 2450 BC and 2000 BC, "making them similarly ancient". Shelagh Vainker, a silk expert at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, sees evidence for silk production in China "significantly earlier" than 2500–2000 BC, however suggests "people of the Indus civilization either harvested silkworm cocoons or traded with people who did, and that they knew a considerable amount about silk." Silk is widely produced today. India is the second largest producer of silk after China. About 97% of the raw silk is produced in the five Indian states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir. The North Bangalore regions of Muddenahalli and Kanivenarayanapura, the upcoming sites of a $20 million "Silk City" Ramanagara and Mysore contribute to a majority of silk production

A sari or saree[note 1] is a strip of unstitched cloth, worn by women, ranging from four to nine yards in length that is draped over the body in various styles which is native to the Indian Subcontinent. The word sari is derived from Sanskrit शाटी śāṭī which means 'strip of cloth' and sāḍī in Prakrit, and which was corrupted to sāṛī in Hindi. The word 'Sattika' is mentioned as describing women's attire in ancient India in Buddhist Jain literature called Jatakas. This could be equivalent to modern day 'Sari'. The term for female bodice, the choli is derived from another ruling clan from south, the Cholas. Rajatarangini (meaning the 'river of kings'), a tenth century literary work by Kalhana, states that the Choli from the Deccan was introduced under the royal order in Kashmir. The concept of Pallava, the end piece in the sari, originated during the Pallavas period and named after the Pallavas, another ruling clan of Ancient Tamilakam.
It is popular in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Burma, Malaysia, and Singapore. The most common style is for the sari to be wrapped around the waist, with one end then draped over the shoulder, baring the midriff.
The sari is usually worn over a petticoat (called lahaṅgā or lehenga in the north; langa, pavada, or pavadai in the south; chaniyo, parkar, ghaghra, or ghagaro in the west; and shaya in eastern India), with a blouse known as a choli or ravika forming the upper garment. The blouse has short sleeves and a low neck and is usually cropped at the midriff, and as such is particularly well-suited for wear in the sultry South Asian summers. Cholis may be backless or of a halter neck style. These are usually more dressy, with plenty of embellishments such as mirrors or embroidery, and may be worn on special occasions. Women in the armed forces, when wearing a sari uniform, don a short-sleeved shirt tucked in at the waist. The sari developed as a garment of its own in both South and North India at around the same time, and is in popular culture an epitome of Indian culture. The sari signified the grace of Indian women adequately displaying the curves at the right places.Noblewoman in Mysore Sari.

Kunal entered the film industry in 2002 with film Ab Ke Baras. Within a short four years, he has established himself as one of the top singers in Bollywood (Indian Hindi film industry).
Along with Hindi songs, Kunal entered Kannada film industry in 2005. His very first song in Kannada, 'Neene Neene' composed by music director R P Patnaik and written by K.Kalyan for the movie Akash starring Kannada's super star Puneet Rajkumar and southern Star Ramya under Kannada matinee idol Padmabhushan, Dada Saheb Phalke awardee Dr.Rajkumar's home banner 'Vajreshwari Combines' itself was a chart buster song of the year. But Kunal's big break in South India, was in the year 2006 from the Kannada blockbuster film Mungaru Male that created a sensation and several records. His song Onde Ondu Sari written by Kaviraj and composed by music director Mano Murthy became the biggest hit of the year creating many records. The songs not only created records of highest sales and downloads, but the film too set a national record on December 29, 2007 of having completed 1 whole year at the PVR Cinemas, Bengaluru. This was the first time in the history of any multiplexes in the international level that a film has had a one whole year run at the box office where films keep changing every week. Kunal did not look back from then. Popular singer Sonu Nigam who is extremely famous in South India for his hundreds of Kannada songs, recently composed a theme song for the Karnataka Bulldozer's team in the Celebrity Cricket League and the song was penned by the popular singer Sowmya Raoh and was sung by Kunal Ganjawala, Sonu Nigam and Sowmya Raoh together. He has sung nearly 450 Kannada Songs till date and he continues to deliver hit songs and is still the singing tensation of Karnataka.
As a child, Kunal never thought of becoming singer. He didn't know until college that he could sing. Since then he started singing at every college festivals and won many intra- and inter-college competitions.“ I was not even a bathroom singer. I began singing only when I was caught by my seniors as an 8th standard students in St Peters School. I was passing by them whistling a tune when a few of them caught hold of me and commanded, 'Sing a song'. I was shocked. I said I never sang in my life. They said, "Dont lie!" When he can whistle tunes so well, why can't he sing? They caught hold of my neck saying, they would throttle me if I didn't. With great difficulty I sang "Nazar ke samne" (Aashiqui) and "Ek din bik jayega" (Dharam Karam). They spared me then but made me sing in college festivals later.[citation needed] ”
Kunal Ganjawala graduated from St. Peter's School, Mazagaon. Kunal wanted to be either a chartered accountant or an actor. Kunal admits that it was his parents' support which made him possible to become a singer. Kunal's sister is a Bharat Natyam exponent, while his father plays the harmonica. With his parents' support he took singing seriously and started believing that he can become a singer.
Later Kunal learned music from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan under the guidance of Sudhindra Bhaumick. Kunal's first singing assignment was a Ranjit Barot's jingle. Ranjit was impressed by Kunal's voice and called him to back one of his jingles. The jingle was "Doodh Doodh" for the Operation Flood ad. Kunal feels lucky that he is one of the singers to whom Ranjit Barot is a mentor. Kunal admitted that he was taken seriously by other music directors because he was working with Barot.
His first break in Bollywood was Ab Ke Baras in 2002. Although the song didn't mark him as a prominent singer, he got many offers in queue. Then after he sung in many movies like Saathiya (2002), Indian Babu (2003), Paisa Vasool (2004), Khakee (2004), Rudraksh (2004), Dhoom (2004) and Meenaxi (2004). But his breakthrough hit "Bheege Hont" from the film Murder won the 2005 Zee Cine Award Best Playback Singer - Male and IIFA Best Male Playback Award.
He has participated in Sa Re Ga Ma, an Indian singing talent competition on Zee TV (now Sa Re Ga Ma Pa) when it was hosted by Sonu Nigam. He was a judge on Amul Star Voice of India, another singing competition on Star TV, together with Shreya Ghoshal and Pritam.
Since then Kunal worked for many music directors like Anu Malik, Pritam, Himesh Reshammiya, Ismail Darbar, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Anand Raaj Anand, Roop Kumar Rathod, Daboo Malik, and Sanjeev-Darshan. Kunal recently sung for Sanjay Lila Bhansali's Saawariya. His numbers from the films Maashah Alaah and Pari are running top on the chart.
Oher than Hindi and Kannada, he has also sung in Tamil, Marathi, Punjabi, Bengali, Telugu, Sindhi languages.
